iPhone 6s – Have we seen the last of the All Writs Act in the encryption fight?

It is a big security question; “Are Governments allowed to access personal data held by phone manufacturers?”

The US Federal Government tried to force Apple to release data for the second time in recent weeks. However, it has back-pedaled after a third party had provided access to the data.

It is Apple’s stance is that the data is secure and that it is a breach of their client’s privacy and the companies policy.

The two cases are over now, but the FBI continues its encryption fight with Apple.

There have been 70 previous cases where Apple has provided access to phone data. These were at the request if Government agencies.

Apple has improved the security of its devices since the iPhone 6 and says it has lost the ability to access the data.

No doubt there will be other cases where there is a need to access data in a criminal case. The question will be whether this will compromise every phone uses the right to their privacy.
